Based on his experiences living with neurodiversity, he turns his personal introspective moments into powerful, universal anthems. Joshua combines live looping, fiery riffs, progressive acoustic picking, and powerhouse vocals to create an intricate, layered, and high-energy sonic landscape. An accomplished instrumentalist with clarity in his voice, he commands an audience's full attention in his one-man show.
With over a decade of experience as a full-time musician, Joshua's live shows have resonated with audiences and garnered him a dedicated following, with extensive appearances at festivals across Australia as well as major events including the Australian Open, the Grand Prix, and the Echuca Winter Blues Festival. Joshua is a two-time finalist in the Melbourne Blues Challenge and has opened for household names including Russell Morris, Daryl Braithwaite, and Things of Stone & Wood, as well as international artists Neal Morse and Irish Mythen.
Joshua’s third full-length studio album and fourth project overall “True Optimism” will be released on September 28th. Coming four years after his sprawling theatrical song cycle ‘Learn To Live Again’, ‘True Optimism’ sees Batten returning to standalone storytelling in individual songs, combining heartfelt insightful lyrics with accessible melodies, choruses and musicianship, straddling genres while retaining his personal identity and style. The album includes the previously released singles “Coming To Our Senses”, “Spring Fever” and “Melody” alongside new tracks that deal with topics such as self-confidence, love, motivation, resilience, and finding joy in unexpected places.
