About this Event
McNamara has dedicated himself almost exclusively to the painting of industrial sites: highway intersections, shipyards, monumental constructions, generators and reactors, airplane graveyards, refineries, factories, and power plants across the country. He seeks out the subject matter that may, on some level, resemble the fantastical and futuristic world of science fiction that captivated him as a child, and alludes to the work of the Precisionists, especially that of Charles Sheeler and Walter Tandy Murch. McNamara then travels to explore and photograph the sites, with photographs serving as a reference for his hyperrealist paintings.

Located within the Church of the Covenant in Boston’s historic Back Bay neighborhood, Gallery NAGA (formerly Newbury Associated Guild of Artists) was founded in 1977, when a group of artists placed their work on display in what used to be the chapel of the church. One month led to the next, and before long, an impromptu gallery was born.
