Voters are invited to learn about issues and speak with federal, state, county and township candidates at a voter forum planned by the Daily Journal and community partners on Oct. 1.The Daily Journal, Bridges Alliance, League of Women Voters of Johnson County and the Political Science Department of Franklin College invite voters to learn about the issues and speak with candidates at our voter forum. The event is Oct. 1 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Branigin Room on the second floor of the Napolitan Student Center at Franklin College.
Local experts will give a short presentation about three key issues facing the community, with the candidates giving 90-second remarks about each topic throughout the event.
Topics that will be discussed during the event are:
Proposed changes in Indiana property taxes and funding for local government
State of public school funding and referendums to increase funding
How the government can impact the quality of life
Once all of the candidates and experts have spoken, voters will have a chance to ask questions and meet with candidates individually and in small groups.
Officials from local school districts with referendums on the ballot — Franklin and Clark-Pleasant are also being invited to share information on the need for and reasoning behind the referendums.
When the RSVP deadline has passed, the Daily Journal will share who plans to attend the event.
The event will be livesteamed on Facebook. The forum will be viewable after the event on our Facebook and YouTube pages and an audio recording will be shared as a special episode of our podcast.
