About this Event

Johnny Burgin Blues Revue

Johnny Burgin • Bruce Ewan • Tommy Hannigan • Mark Stutso

Johnny plays 200+ shows a year across the US, Europe, and Japan. Raised in Mississippi, he headed to the University of Chicago at 18 but got his real education at "blues university," learning the West Side sound directly from Howlin' Wolf-style singer Tail Dragger, who gave him his first pro gigs. Johnny went on to tour and record with legends Pinetop Perkins, Sam Lay, and Billy Boy Arnold. Vintage Guitar calls his playing "stellar fretwork, gloriously loose, earthy and immediate Chicago blues."

He's released ten albums on Delmark and Vizztone, including Johnny Burgin Live (with Charlie Musselwhite, Nancy Wright, and Rae Gordon, #3 on the Living Blues Radio Chart) and No Border Blues: Japan, the first US compilation of Japan's underground blues scene. He earned a BMA nomination for Howlin' at Greaseland and a Blast Blast nod for Best Live Release.

Harmonica ace Bruce Ewan has been a fixture of the DC blues scene since 1975, dubbed "a harmonica wizard" by the Washington Post. He's shared stages with John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, and Carey Bell, and toured Europe, Latin America, and South Africa. A master of diatonic and chromatic harp, Bruce blends Chicago-style flair with jazzy inflections and deep blues history.

Tommy Hannigan is a seasoned bassist whose deep pocket, musical versatility, and unshakeable feel have made him a trusted presence on the DMV roots-rock and blues scene. A native Texan, he has played in numerous groups over the years, including The Shambles and the Grand Dukes, and has backed artists such as Johnny Burgin.

Now the bass player for the legendary Nighthawks, Hannigan brings a powerful, song-first approach that fits the band’s blues, R&B, roots-rock, and rock ’n’ roll legacy. Whether anchoring a hard-driving groove or giving a ballad the room to breathe, Tommy is the kind of player who makes every band around him sound better.

Mark Stutso is a powerhouse drummer and vocalist whose career spans rock, blues, and American roots music. After trading five years in the West Virginia coal mines for life on the road, the self-taught musician built a reputation through years with Jimmy Thackery, Ruffryder, Trix, and other regional acts. Now a driving force behind legendary D.C. blues-and-roots band The Nighthawks, Stutso combines deep-pocket drumming with commanding vocals shaped by decades of live performance.
