John Rock Prophet writes like a man who's spent a lifetime somewhere between a bar stool and a church pew. Born in Windhoek, now based in Germany, he's built a career on stripped-back folk, country, and blues, in Afrikaans and English both, the kind of songs you feel in your chest before you catch the lyrics. His album Verhoogde Standaarde is proof he's just as comfortable rewriting the old classics as he is writing new ones.
