JOHN PRIMER / GILES ROBSON “The Chicago Blues Living Legend & the Blues Harmonica Master”
Four nights of Chicago blues in Athens, 16 to 19 October 2026
Chicago blues guitarist and singer John Primer returns to Athens for four performances at Half Note Jazz Club, from Friday 16 to Monday 19 October 2026. Joining him is British harmonica player and singer Giles Robson. Chicago-born vocalist Robbin Kapsalis will appear as a special guest from Saturday 17 October.
A three-time Grammy nominee and Blues Hall of Fame inductee, Primer helped shape the Chicago blues sound from within. He played guitar and led bands for Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters and Magic Slim & The Teardrops before establishing his own Real Deal Blues Band. His guitar and voice bring decades of experience to a tradition that remains alive on stage.
Robson has built an international reputation for his expressive harmonica playing and commanding live performances. A Blues Music Award winner, he has worked with Joe Louis Walker and Bruce Katz, among others. His partnership with Primer is captured on their album Ten Chicago Blues Classics, which revisits songs associated with Muddy Waters and Little Walter. Their performances at Half Note bring guitar, harmonica and vocals together in an intimate club setting.
Singer and songwriter Robbin Kapsalis, who was born in Chicago, will join Primer and Robson for selected songs on 17, 18 and 19 October. She has performed with artists and groups including Roomful of Blues, Billy Branch and Duke Robillard.
Across four nights, audiences will have the chance to hear Chicago blues up close from performers who continue to record and carry its repertoire forward.
