Tombed Visions is proud to present an exclusive solo performance by legendary improviser and saxophonist John Butcher in the beautiful, acoustically rich environs of St Margaret's Church. Active since the 1980s, John has continued to pioneer entirely new approaches to the saxophone, drawing on alternate fingerings, multiphonics and extended techniques to to radically redefine the core sound of the instrument. Demonstrated crucially across a series of critically acclaimed solo albums, most recently with 'Away, I Was' for Relative Pitch, John's lone investigations are full of drama, detail and awe-inspring technique.
Possessing an entirely singular, unique and instantly recognisable sound has led to enduring collaborations with John Russell, Polwechsel, Amm, Phil Durant, Derek Bailey, Lee Patterson, Otomo Yoshide, Keiji Haino and countless others across the globe and he continues to work regularly in London's thriving free-improv scene.
