About this Event

The September 2026 Man Met School of Sociology and Criminology seminar series is based on the Netflix show of the same name. Centring the victim’s voices, the two invited speakers will discuss the failings of the Saville Case from a police and forensic psychiatric perspective and highlight the lessons to be learnt. Using first-hand accounts Detective Superintendent Ray Galloway will present the work he was tasked to undertake, interviewing over 200 victims for the inquiry report about Jimmy Savile’s involvement with Leeds Royal Infirmary Hospital. Dr Carine Minne a forensic psychiatrist and psychoanalyst will present a fictionalised court report, based on all the facts that subsequently emerged for the absent criminal trial following Saville’s 2007 interview under caution, one that never led to charges being brought. The forensic court report is constructed as if he had been arrested and remanded to Pr*son and is based on Carine’s fictionalised interviews of him using her experience as a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst within Broadmoor hospital. A discussion of the failings and subsequent learning from both a police and psychiatric perspective.
