Third Rail presents power pop guitarist, Jimmy Catlett. This free event is open to all at 2244 Ivy Rd. You can also listen on 91.1 FM, stream via wtju.net, video stream on WTJU’s YouTube channel, or listen via the WTJU mobile app.Jimmy Catlett is a singer- songwriter and guitarist hailing from Richmond, VA, with independent releases on Glass Tube Records and 50 Pound Records. Jimmy follows his roots and influences of rock/power pop without a lot of frills but plenty of power. A contrarian to the “latest thing” he writes what’s on his mind and invites the listener in to his experiences to create music that leaves a nice, long finish. His current release, “Fever Dream” is the 3rd collaboration with producer Kim Haynie at the helm. An assortment of guest artists and bandmates from over the years keep this release fresh and filled with lots catchy melodies and layered guitars to go with heartfelt vocals that pull you in. While tough to pin Jimmy down to a genre, he is equally adept at writing within the style of Small Faces, Badfinger & Bowie. You can toss in some Raspberries and Tommy Keene and mix it with a softer, acoustic side into a musical stew that has something for just about everyone.
Jimmy was in bands Dirty Secrets, Dumm Dumms, The Simple Things, and Nat King Kong, before stepping into a solo career.
“Catlett’s new album, ‘Fever Dream,’ captures that feeling of anything goes — it’s an album of engaging heartland rock with touches of soul, New Wave and melodic folk. Buttressed by catchy guitar licks and sing along choruses — songs like ‘Too Much to Say’ and ‘Burn It Down’ seem readymade for a classic rock playlist. . .” – Don Harrison in Style Weekly
Third Rail is supported locally by Hello Goodbye Records, at 108 4th Street, Northwest, in Downtown Charlottesville.
