We all belong to multiple groups, but what does it really mean to identify with one? This course explores how social identities are formed, shaped, and defined—and who gets to decide what is “normal” within a group. Using the diversity of the Jewish community as a case study, students will examine varied expressions of Jewish identity across time and place. We will engage both ancient and modern perspectives, from the Hebrew Bible through contemporary movements like Zionism and the Shoah, alongside evolving practices, beliefs, and cultural life. Meets Saturdays, 9:30am-11:00am,
