About this Event
Jewish Birth and Life Cycles: An afternoon of story and celebration
Shifrah UK invites you to an intimate and creative afternoon of Jewish storytelling, centring birth, matrescence and other pivotal reproductive life-cycle moments.
Through a rich mix of discussion, poetry and song, the afternoon will feature voices from across the diverse Jewish community, weaving together personal stories, ritual memory, religious learning and artistic expression. Together, contributors will explore the cultural, spiritual and communal significance of these rites of passage within British Jewish life - honouring both ancient wisdom and evolving feminist perspectives.
We look forward to presenting:
- Rabbinical perspectives from Rabbi Miriam Berger, introducing Wellspring - a space to mark transition or change - joyful or mournful - and find solace, self-care and some peace.
- Live participatory drawing with Talmudic Drawing Studio
- Song and ritual-making with Kohenet Rachel Rose Reid of Yelala
- Creative journaling with Maternal Journal
- Be Fruitful - the new book on Jewish birth by Dr B.J. Woodstein
- Hope and Healing through Song with Judith Silver
- Poetry by Chloe Yale Pinto
And more to be announced!
