The Press Club of Southeast Texas will host a nonpartisan Jefferson County Candidate Debate and Meet & Greet on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the Betty Greenberg Center for Performing Arts in Beaumont.The Candidate Meet & Greet will be held from 5:30 PM to 6:15 PM, followed by a Candidate Debate featuring candidates seeking office in Jefferson County from 6:15 PM to 7:30 PM. Doors will open at 5:30 PM.
This free public event will give the community an opportunity to connect with and learn more from candidates seeking office this November.
Featured races and participants, listed alphabetically in order of debate, include:
• Member, State Board of Education, District 7 – Tiffany Perkinz (DEM) and Julie Pickren (REP)
• Criminal District Judge, Jefferson County – Luke Nichols (REP) and John “Johnny” B. Stevens, Jr. (DEM)
• Jefferson County Clerk – Roxanne Acosta-Hellberg (REP) and Carolyn L. Guidry (DEM)
• Jefferson County Treasurer – Michael Cooper (DEM) and Tim Funchess (REP)
• Jefferson County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4, Place 2 – Benjamin “Ben” Collins, Sr. (DEM) and Joe Evans (REP).
Each debate will last approximately 15 minutes and include five questions of local importance compiled by members of the Press Club. 12News anchor Mark Armstrong and KFDM/Fox Southeast Texas anchor Erika Harris will serve as moderators. Candidates will each have the opportunity to make one minute opening and closing statements.
