Jazz Ensembles I and II present Keeping up with the Joneses: Music of Quincy, Thad and More. 28x Grammy Winner Quincy Jones conducted and arranged big band music for the Count Basie Orchestra, and Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, among countless others over the course of a career spanning seven decades. Acclaimed composer Thad Jones, once a trumpet player, himself in the Count Basie Orchestra, led the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra for twelve years before moving to Copenhagen and directed the Danish Radio Big Band. This concert celebrates works of these luminary figures as well as other important bearers of the Jones name in Jazz. Dean Sorenson, conductor
