The Luminosity Quartet is a new Milwaukee group built around original music, bringing together four players whose paths have crossed throughout the city’s jazz scene. The quartet performs entirely original compositions written by guitarist Samuel Catral and pianist Tael Estremera, music that draws on the group’s shared vocabulary while giving each voice room to stretch.Rounded out by in-demand bassist John Christensen and drummer Yanni Chudnow, the quartet trades on close listening and the kind of chemistry that comes from players who already know how to leave space for one another. In their debut season, they offer a fresh book of writing and a sound that’s still taking shape in real time.
