About this Event
"Write to Change the World" Workshop weekly series - two x 3.5 hour sessions
Our virtual workshops cover the full "Write to Change the World" curriculum, broken into multiple sessions, and use interactive video to connect participants with each other (in pairs, in small groups, and as a cohort) via virtual chat rooms. Because our workshops are based on discovery through group interaction, we ask all participants to commit to the full workshop experience (start to finish). All participants will have follow-up access to our journalist mentors for individual feedback on their op-ed drafts.
2-Day Intensive (please note your time zone):
- Wednesday, January 15 from 2:00 pm-5:30 pm ET
- Thursday, January 16 from 2:00 pm-5:30 pm ET
Description: Like all our workshops, our virtual interactive workshop experiences are based on time-tested models of transformational learning, which can unlock knowledge in powerful and unexpected ways. Workshops are designed to inspire and cultivate a greater sense of social responsibility by clarifying our potential impact on the world. We explore the source of credibility; the patterns and elements of persuasion; the difference between being “right” and being effective; how to preach beyond the choir; and how to think bigger about what you know—to have more impact in the world. Workshops are also designed to generate concrete results. Participants emerge with concrete results (op-ed drafts and more) and they will also receive access to our national network of journalist mentors for individual follow up on their op-ed drafts (contingent on completing the workshop in full).
Who should attend? We welcome people of all identities, backgrounds, genders and positions. We seek to always overrepresent the underrepresented, including women. As our curriculum is based on expanding our thinking, it is suitable for those with or without publishing experience.
Scholarships The OpEd Project is building a sustainable model for social justice. Our public workshops are designed to break even (with neither profit or loss) while providing scholarships for up to 30% of participants in any workshop. Scholarship application here.
About The OpEd Project’s mission is change who writes history. We are a community of thought leaders, commentary writers, journalists, and change agents who actively work to diversify knowledge and accelerate solutions to society’s greatest challenges. We believe the world becomes more intelligent when it is more inclusive. We believe the best ideas, regardless of where they come from, should have a chance to change the world. We have stunning results.
