About this Event
The Jalethal Dolls return with the Bantu Collection, a new body of handmade sculptural dolls by Syracuse-based interdisciplinary artist Jaleel Campbell.
First established in 2017, The figures grew from Campbell’s childhood love of dolls and his experience navigating the shame and gender expectations often placed on boys. What began as a personal exploration of identity has transformed into an artistic practice rooted in self-acceptance, representation, and creative freedom.
Each 18-inch doll is individually designed and constructed by Campbell, bringing together illustration, textiles, and handcraft. The Bantu Collection marks an exciting new chapter in the project, inviting collectors and art enthusiasts to experience Jalethal Dolls as both sculptural artworks and tangible expressions of personal transformation.
