Jack’s Gala: Reaching for the Stars returns for its third year! Inspired by our son Jack’s dream of becoming an astronaut, this special space-themed event brings our community together to celebrate the power of hope, science and exploration.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we have raised over $375,000 toward SPG4 research since our first gala. This year, we’re reaching even higher!
Join us for an extraordinary evening featuring exceptional dining, live entertainment, exciting auctions and inspiring guests, all in support of a cause very close to our hearts.
OUR FAMILY’S STORY
We are Richard and Anna Laidlaw, proud parents of three wonderful boys: Jack (9), Scott (7) and Tom (5).
Our eldest son, Jack, is a happy, kind and determined little boy who loves hockey, music and everything about space. His biggest dream is to become an astronaut and be the first person to walk on Mars.
In December 2023, our lives changed when Jack was diagnosed with SPG4, a rare, progressive neurological disease with no cure.
SPG4 causes progressive muscle stiffness and weakness, which can eventually lead to loss of mobility. There is currently no treatment that stops its progression.
As parents, this diagnosis was devastating. With promising scientific research underway, we have hope that a treatment or cure may one day be possible.
WHY YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS
Researchers are working to develop the world’s first treatment or cure for SPG4, including promising advances in gene therapy. However, rare disease research faces significant funding challenges, making community support especially important.
Through Jack’s Gala, we are raising critical funds to help advance this research toward human clinical trials and future treatments.
Jack’s dream is to reach Mars. Ours is to cure our son and help others with SPG4.
