We are pleased to welcome back Jackson Pines to our concert series! www.jacksonpines.com
Jackson Pines brings the sounds and stories of the New Jersey Pine Barrens to life through a distinctive blend of folk, blues, Americana, and indie rock. Led by singer-songwriter Joe Makoviecki and upright bassist James Black, the band combines intimate acoustic arrangements, memorable melodies, and a deep sense of place with songs about love, loss, hard times, hope, and the people and places that make up their corner of New Jersey.
Over the past several years, Jackson Pines has earned national attention while remaining deeply connected to its South Jersey roots. The band has been featured by Billboard, NPR, and PBS and has shared stages with artists including Old Crow Medicine Show, Margo Price, The Avett Brothers, Dr. Dog, Nicole Atkins, The Felice Brothers, and Band of Horses. Their performances have taken them from intimate clubs and theaters to the Sea.Hear.Now Festival, Philadelphia Folk Festival, and New Jersey Folk Festival.
Their acclaimed Pine Barrens project has brought renewed attention to the traditional music of their home region. Pine Barrens Volume One, released in 2023, gathered folk songs with deep roots in the Pines ... including ballads, prison songs, love songs, and fiddle tunes ... and was named Album of the Year by The Aquarian. The band continued that exploration with Pine Barrens Volume Two in 2024, further uncovering and reimagining music connected to the people and history of South Jersey.
Jackson Pines was subsequently named 2024 Band of the Year by The Aquarian, and their work continues to bridge traditional American roots music with Makoviecki’s original songwriting. Their newest album, Wheel, released in 2026, turns the focus toward original material while carrying forward the storytelling, acoustic textures, and musical traditions that have become hallmarks of the band.
Producer and musician Simone Felice, who produced Jackson Pines’ Purgatory Road, described them as “workers in song,” praising their pursuit of music and songwriting for “all the right reasons.”
Rooted in New Jersey but drawing on musical traditions that reach far beyond it, Jackson Pines creates music that feels both deeply local and timeless.
