Join us for the launch of Issue 119 at ACMI on Friday October 23 with the Australian premiere of Dea Gjinovci's hybrid documentary, THE BEAUTY OF THE DONKEY (2025). After 60 years in exile, Asllan and his daughter, director Dea Gjinovci, return to the Kosovar village of Makermal to reconstruct the idyllic world of his childhood. As playful re-enactments give way to haunting revelations, Dea and Asllan confront the painful disappearance of a beloved matriarch and the collective scars of a community grappling with memory, loss and the casualties of war.
The screening will be preceded by a virtual introduction from the journal’s president, Amanda Barbour.
