Isaac Roux (BE) writes songs about the moment when youth slowly gives way to something that looks like maturity. Nostalgia for adolescence creeps into his music, as does the realisation that growing up is never easy.
After visits to Pukkelpop, Rock Werchter, Eurosonic and the release of his debut album Troubled Waters (2024), Isaac Roux is intentionally seeking out the fringes. His sound is becoming looser, faster and more lo-fi: wailing guitars, rebellious arrangements and rhythms that keep driving forward.
There are echoes of Beach Fossils, the melancholy of The Cure and the dreamy, psychedelic layers of Tame Impala. Always filtered through his own, unpolished vision. On Young Hearts, Isaac Roux gives a first glimpse into a new chapter. The track is a powerful anthem of rebellion and authenticity, that calls for conventions to be broken and fully embracing one’s own voice.
To create the recordings, the band retreated to a small house at the foot of the Mont Ventoux, where they set up an entire DIY recording process under the banner ‘Studio La Pichounette’. This approach resulted in a rawer, more direct sound with a distinct sense of band chemistry.
These recording sessions then received their final mix in collaboration with Peter Katis (The National, Interpol, Kurt Vile, Death Cab for Cutie). Together with producer Bert Vliegen, Louis De Roo headed to Bridgeport to put the finishing touches on the tracks, at a studio rich in history.
So, Young Hearts is not only a new single, but also a clear preview of a more multi-faceted and energetic sound in which Isaac Roux reveals another side of himself.
