Comhaltas Perth is pleased to present traditional Irish Music workshops the weekend of the Albany Shanty Festival, Irish-themed this year, with acclaimed Irish traditional music teacher Fiona Doherty for a weekend of workshops at King River Hall.
Fiona Doherty is a highly accomplished traditional Irish fiddle player, multi-instrumentalist, and music educator from Co Sligo. She has been teaching and performing music for over 40 years both in Ireland and abroad including Europe, Australia and U.S.A. As a third-generation musician and Bardic Award recipient, Fiona brings a wealth of musical knowledge and expertise to her classes. Her workshops cater to all skill levels from beginners to the more advanced players looking to develop their traditional Irish music technique and repertoire
Saturday 11 July – Beginners & Improvers Tin Whistle Workshop
Suitable for beginners and developing players wishing to build confidence and skills in Irish traditional music. Participants are encouraged to bring a D tin whistle.
Don’t have a D tin whistle?
D tin whistles are currently available locally from Wakes Music and Uptown Music in Albany. Comhaltas has a limited amount of whistles for purchase or loan.
Sunday 12 July – Melody Instruments Workshop (Intermediate to Advanced)
Suitable for musicians who are already comfortable learning and playing tunes. Open to fiddle, flute, tin whistle, concertina, mandolin, banjo and other melody instruments. The workshop will focus on repertoire, style, phrasing, ornamentation and ensemble playing within the Irish tradition.
Important Information
Registration from 9:30am.
Workshops run from 10:00am to 12:00pm.
Tea and coffee provided.
Workshops are for registered participants only.
No spectators, please.
Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Parents or guardians attending solely to supervise a minor do not require a ticket unless they are participating.
Places are limited and bookings are essential.
