About this Event

ABOUT IRIS PERCUSSION: Iris Percussion melds four unique and passionate musical perspectives into one cohesive and engaging chamber ensemble. With an emphasis on theatrics and interdisciplinary performance, Iris combines the differing strengths and interests of Logan Bass, Lily Cooper, Jack Tarpley, & Amy Weyand to create new, exciting contemporary classical percussion quartet performances. Formed in 2024 as freshman at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, the quartet attended an awe-inspiring performance by Sandbox Percussion with the Gandini Juggling Troupe and were inspired to come together to create their own dynamic and captivating performances.

Arising from different corners of the country with varying backgrounds, the ensemble members put an original spin on chamber music for an immersive and impactful experience. Between their diverse experiences in orchestral, chamber, and solo settings, the quartet merges their refined individual knowledge to present high quality performances. Active in the Boston Conservatory community, Iris gains inspiration from fellow student artists, including composers, instrumentalists, dancers, and theater students, all of whom influence their creative process. The quartet’s current focus is working with composers to develop new works involving theatrical elements, found percussion, and speech, with future goals of collaborating on projects with other art forms, from dance to film.

Iris greatly values learning from an array of faculty from Boston Conservatory, as well as at the Lawrence Chamber Music Festival, which they attended in 2026. There, they performed with vocalist and guitarist Buddy Redd in the Mile of Music Festival in Appleton, WI alongside other young artists, arranging the songwriter’s blues-rock tunes for their eccentric chamber ensemble. In addition, Iris performed for the first time outside of Boston Conservatory as a quartet at the Lawrence Memorial Chapel, paving the way for their current 2026-27 season of performances, both on and off campus. A highlight of their recent performances was their November performance at the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University, in which they curated an all found-percussion program centered around the Leventritt Shrub & Vine Garden, featuring two new works by student composers.
