IRENE KELLEY - SONGS & STORIES - LIVE @ THE STATION

Irene Kelley is a Nashville-based singer-songwriter known for her work in country and bluegrass. Originally from Latrobe, Pennsylvania, she began performing in high school (including a short stint in a Led Zeppelin cover band) before joining the bluegrass band Redwing as lead singer in 1981, where she appeared at major festivals such as Bill Monroe’s Bean Blossom. She relocated to Nashville in the early 1980s, signed with MCA Nashville, and quickly established herself as a songwriter. Her co-write “Love Can’t Ever Get Better Than This” (recorded by Ricky Skaggs & Sharon White) reached No. 10 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart and won the CMA Award for Duet of the Year in 1987. Her songs have also been recorded by artists including Alan Jackson (“A Little Bluer Than That”), Loretta Lynn, Trisha Yearwood, Little Big Town, and others.

As a recording artist, Kelley has released a series of critically praised albums that blend country, bluegrass, and Americana, including Simple Path, Pennsylvania Coal, These Hills (which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Bluegrass Albums chart), Benny’s TV Repair, and Snow White Memories. She has scored multiple No. 1 singles on the Bluegrass Today charts and is a graduate of IBMA’s Leadership Bluegrass Class of 2017. Kelley has performed at the Grand Ole Opry, IBMA World of Bluegrass, CMA Music Festival, and other major venues, and she frequently collaborates with her daughters as part of the Women of Kelley.
