Learn to restore your beloved knitwear back to its original condition in this one-day workshop.
About this Event

We've all been there - the moment when you find a hole in your favourite knitted item. Whether its a cashmere jumper or lovingly hand-knitted socks, these precious items can be brought back to life with care and patience.

In this one-day workshop, weaver Emma Wood will guide you through all the steps to learn how to understand and restore your knitwear. The workshop will begin with an introduction to how knitted structures work, how to identify individual stitches, rows and columns in your knitwear, and how to diagnose the damage in your knitwear.

You'll then practice the steps to repair on large knitted fabrics. We will begin with learning how to mend ladders, and then will look at reconstructing stitches to repair holes.

Following a lunch break, you can either continue to practice using a selection of different weight test fabrics, or already begin to mend your own knitwear.

Do I already need to know how to knit?

No! Whilst some knitting knowledge is beneficial, this workshop is also suitable for total beginners, even if you’ve never held a knitting needle before.

I don't currently have any clothes with holes, can I still take the workshop?

Yes! There are ample practice materials for you to work with, and you'll develop the skills to continue using at home.

How many items should I bring?

You may only be able to mend one of your own items during the workshop, as this workshop is focused on learning a technique that requires patience and focus. However, you are welcome to bring more items with you to discuss your mending options directly with Emma, and to select some complimentary mending yarn to take home with you.

What will I take home with me?

A handy skill that will last a lifetime, your repaired items, an illustrated booklet so you never forget your new skill, and a toolkit to help you keep mending at home.
