About this Event
Holm or Evergreen Oak (Quercus ilex) is a Mediteranean species, naturalised here in Jersey, that is having a negative impact on our sand dunes. It is a prolific seeder and because of its ability to be drought and salt tolerant, it has firmly taken hold in areas that traditionally trees would not have grown. These evergreen trees then shade out and compete with the native flora.
We will be digging out small saplings to prevent them taking hold.
This is a fantastic opportunity to use your volunteer hours and make a positive difference to our natural environment.
All welcome; all children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult/guardian.
We'll meet at the Le Chemin des Basses Mielles top carpark.
Tools will be provided. Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes / boots. If you have gardening gloves you are welcome to bring them with you.
Please bring your own refreshments.
