About this Event
WILD LANDSCAPES
Intuitive Palette Knife Oil Painting
Saturday 7 November | 10.30am–4.30pm
Wild, Callander, Stirlingshire
Spend a day exploring a looser, intuitive approach to landscape painting using palette knives and oils.
Taking inspiration from the landscapes, colours and textures of the local area, we’ll experiment with layering, expressive marks, colour mixing and different ways of suggesting land, trees, sky and distance without getting caught up in too much detail.
The emphasis will be on the experience of painting rather than creating a perfect finished piece. We’ll slow things down, experiment, respond to the paint and allow the painting to develop as we work.
A relaxed and meditative day designed to help you loosen up, trust your instincts and enjoy the physical process of painting.
Suitable for complete beginners as well as artists who would like to develop a freer, more expressive way of working.
WILD MARKS
Intuitive Palette Knife and Brush Work Oil Painting
Sunday 8 November | 10.30am–4.30pm
Wild, Callander, Stirlingshire
Spend a day exploring the marks, textures and shapes found in leaves, flowers, grasses, shrubs and wild planting.
Using palette knives and some brush work with oil lines and acrylics, we’ll experiment with layering, scraping, dragging, broken colour and expressive mark making, looking at how we can suggest natural forms without needing to describe every detail.
This workshop is less about painting a perfect flower or leaf and more about noticing rhythm, texture, movement and colour. We’ll work intuitively, responding to the paint as it develops and allowing unexpected marks to become part of the process.
A relaxed and meditative day focused on experimentation, slowing down and enjoying the act of painting itself.
Suitable for complete beginners as well as artists looking to loosen up their work and develop a more expressive way of painting.
Join us for one day of the full weekend
Both workshops are suitable for beginners and experienced artists alike. Each day offers a different approach to intuitive painting, so you can enjoy either workshop on its own or spend the whole weekend exploring and developing your creativity with Charlotte.

Charlotte Strawbridge
Charlotte is a contemporary artist and writer, inspired by the flora and fauna of the British countryside, spirit animals and the ‘peace of wild things’.
She is drawn to oils for their playful, textural qualities, enjoying the spontaneity of painting alla prima. Charlotte completes most pieces in one session, aiming to capture the joy of a passing moment in nature.
With each painting, she creates illustrated thoughts from the animal’s perspective. These thoughts inspire contemplation on some big ideas, in gentle short stories. From lessons on mindfulness and gratitude, to observations on the little things and the joys of nature.
