About this Event

Join acclaimed local watercolour painter Colin Allbrook for a 3-hour introduction to the wonderful world of watercolours.

Working from personal reference images, participants will receive a live demonstration followed by one-to-one guidance throughout the session.

Participants are to bring their own materials.

Living in the West Country for over 40 years, much of Colin’s work incorporates evidence of man’s influence on and presence in the landscape around the South West of England. He works directly from the subject, or often starts by drawing as a way of exploring and understanding the subject. These studies along with photographs can then be worked into finished paintings back in the studio. Beginning with a figure or a boat maybe, the composition grows from that point, incorporating the various elements around it as they arrive and depart.

As an elected member of both the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour (2001) and the Royal Society of Marine Artists (2008 currently Hon Secretary), Colin exhibits with both societies each year at their annual exhibitions in the Mall Galleries, London. Elected to the Society of Equestrian Artists (1999) and the South West Academy of Fine Art (2010) he exhibits each year at the annual exhibitions in London, Nottingham and South West England. Since 1997, Colin has exhibited many times with the Royal Society of Oil Painters, the Pastel Society, the Royal Watercolour Society, the Sunday Times Watercolour exhibition, the Royal West of England Academy and the Lynn Painter-Stainers exhibition.
