About this Event
It is critical that play therapists understand the historical roots of play therapy. In this introductory workshop, participants will travel through time to explore the origins of play therapy. The 10 seminal/historically significant play therapy theories will be introduced, briefly explained, and current research reviewed. Participants will engage in experiential activities designed to apply the Therapeutic Powers of Play and basic play therapy skills and techniques.
Learning Objectives
Participants will:
- Identify three key figures in the field of play therapy.
- Identify the 10 Seminal/Historically significant play therapy theories and key figures associated with each theory.
- Explain the importance and benefits of play therapy based on current research.
- List play therapy themes associated with common childhood mental health diagnoses.
- Apply the Therapeutic Powers of Play.
- Identify and apply the basic play therapy skills and techniques.
