One weekend that will make your role as a Scout leader easier, more rewarding, and more effective. If you're a current or incoming Scouts BSA leader, Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (IOLS) is one of the best investments you can make in your Scouting journey.
Designed specifically for Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters, IOLS provides hands-on training in the outdoor skills that form the foundation of the Scouts BSA program. Whether you're new to camping and outdoor leadership or looking to strengthen your skills and confidence, this course will help you feel better prepared to lead your troop's outdoor program.
The skills taught are based on the requirements found in the Scouts BSA Handbook and are the same skills Scouts use as they progress toward First Class rank. More importantly, IOLS gives adult leaders the knowledge and confidence needed to teach those skills, lead successful campouts, and create a safe, engaging outdoor experience for youth.
Why attend?
As volunteers, our time is valuable. IOLS helps simplify your role by providing practical, hands-on instruction that can save you time, reduce uncertainty, and make outdoor events easier to plan and lead. You'll leave with proven methods, valuable resources, and the confidence to support Scouts in their advancement and outdoor adventures.
In addition, IOLS, together with Scoutmaster Specific Training, is required for all Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters and is necessary for direct-contact Scouts BSA leaders to be considered fully trained.
