About this Event
Join us for a fermentation masterclass where Josephine will guide us through the essentials of fermentation, demystify what’s happening in the jar, and show us how to confidently bring these techniques into our own kitchens.
At a gentle pace, you will allow your palate to become a tool for connecting with the invisible world of fermented foods. You’ll experience fermentation with all your senses: the crunch of fresh vegetables, the shifting scent of brine, the subtle changes in colour and texture, and the deep, complex flavours that only time and microbes can create.
- A mindful tasting of different ferments with complex and deep flavours
- A beginner-friendly understanding of what fermentation is and why it matters in your everyday life
- The core principles for safe, successful ferments at home (salt, time, temperature, cleanliness)
- A guided walkthrough of making a lacto ferment with tips to adapt it to seasons and ingredients
- Practical troubleshooting: what’s normal, what’s not, and how to adjust
- A new way of thinking about food as a relationship between plants, microbes, and our bodies
Accessibility:
We aim to create a welcoming, inclusive space at the Forest Farm Peace Garden for everyone. As a community ecotherapy garden, we recognise the site is nature-based, so paths can be uneven and access may vary depending on weather. We do our best to support access through seating, quieter spaces, and a flexible, supportive approach to activities. Everyone is welcome to take part at their own pace, and carers, support workers, and assistance animals are encouraged. If you have any access needs, please get in touch before attending so we can support you as best we can.
For more information on garden accessibility see: https://www.forestfarmpeacegarden.org/find-us or contact us at [email protected]
Pricing structure
Our tickets are priced on a trust-based system because we never want financial barriers to stand in the way of people attending. If the standard price is a hurdle, please feel free to choose a concession ticket. We do not require proof of benefits, and no questions will be asked at the door. For people in a position to pay a bit more to help support what we do, and keep our events accessible to others, we deeply appreciate it - but if not, there is no pressure.
All proceeds will go towards supporting our free ecotherapy program for people with mental health recovery needs
