About this Event

Struggling to decide what to teach, when, and in which language? You're not alone. Crafting a standards-based biliteracy curriculum map (AKA scope and sequence) is one of the most important—and most complex—tasks in dual language education.

In this interactive two-day institute, participants will explore how the Teaching for Biliteracy Recommendations can guide curriculum mapping decisions that support students in meeting the three pillars of dual language. We will examine real examples of biliteracy maps, discuss how to use published resources (AKA curriculum) within your program’s framework, and share tools that can help your team assess and refine biliteracy maps.

Whether you're just getting started or refining existing maps, you’ll leave with clear next steps and a powerful tool for building aligned and sustainable biliteracy instruction.

Target Audience:This session is ideal for teachers, school and district administrators, and program leadership teams, especially those new to Teaching for Biliteracy or Dual Language Education. Teams with a decision-maker on board will find particular success, as many tools focus on systemic decision-making and implementation.

Participants will:

  • Analyze and evaluate examples of biliteracy curriculum maps
  • Learn how to apply the Teaching for Biliteracy Recommendations to your curriculum design
  • Determine how the Biliteracy Unit Framework (BUF) meets the needs of students in Dual Language and Biliteracy programs
  • Explore how to integrate published resources (AKA curriculum)
  • Evaluate and plan next steps for your own biliteracy maps, or scope and sequence

Daily Schedule

  • December 2-3, 2026
  • Live sessions: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Central Time (each day)

Participants are welcome to bring existing curriculum maps to analyze, or start from scratch with the provided tools.
