Intro to Welding — Hands-On Beginner Class (Los Angeles)
Curious about welding but don’t know where to start?
This beginner-friendly class is a fun, low-pressure way to learn the fundamentals—no experience needed.
Join The Collab MakerSpace and our head welder Raven for a hands-on introduction to welding in a relaxed, supportive environment.
What You’ll Learn
In this 2-hour workshop, you’ll get a practical foundation in:
• Common types of welding used in DIY and fabrication
• Basic metal types and how to work with them
• Material prep and shop workflow
• Essential safety practices and equipment
Hands-On Experience
After a short demo, you’ll jump right in.
You’ll get guided, hands-on experience with:
• MIG welding
• Cutting and grinding metal
• Plasma cutting (yes, you’ll get to try it)
By the end of the class, you’ll feel comfortable using the tools and understand what it takes to start your own welding projects. Plus, you'll have your very own cool art piece - welded and fabricated by your hands and new skills - to take home!
What’s Included

• Safety gear (gloves, face shields, etc.)
• Step-by-step instruction
What to Bring
• Long pants
• Long-sleeve cotton shirt (no synthetics)
• Closed-toe shoes
• Hair tie if you have long hair
You’re also welcome to bring a drink or snack.
