About this Event
In visions of our lives now and in the future, we hope for and create the room to be ourselves with one another, however we choose to. The capacity to clothe ourselves and our communities, offers us a new form of care and self-determination.
In this spirit, Sonemani and Appuni will be traveling to one of Sonemani's ancestral homelands, Laos, to learn traditional Lao weaving! In order to raise the funds towards this residency, we will be offering a limited set of sewing classes <3
Join us for the first time at Waveform Ceramics for a sewing class for adult confident beginners. Confident beginners means you know how to thread the machine and sew basic straight seams. The rest, I'll teach you!
In this 3 hour class, you’ll learn deepen your knowledge of machine sewing and learn the basics of garment construction. We'll go over how to read and cut patterns, and how to sew up a pair of pants or shorts! This includes learning curved seams, elastic waistbands, and hems. All students will walk away with a toile of pants/shorts, and a pattern to take home.
The cost of the class includes materials (pre-cut fabric, thread, and pattern), and sewing machines are available if students don't have one. Students are encouraged to bring machines if they do, including contacting Appuni if any repairs are needed ahead of time!
Before attending the class, students must submit their measurements (in inches) so that the instructor can prepare the patterns and fabric accordingly!
With the intention of gentle and attentive instruction, all classes are capped at 6 students.
All participants are required to mask the entirety of the class. We consider COVID safety our priority, and require all students to wear high filtration masks through the entirety of the class. Masks are provided, if you don't have them! We run an air purifier as well.
