Intro to Letterpress: Broadside Poster with Mixed TypeDescription: Come get a taste for letterpress printing in this special weekday class, taught by guest instructor, Meredith Miller. Historically, the small, text-based posters called “broadsides” were proclamations, calls to action, announcements, or literary excerpts. In response to a loose prompt (supplied by the instructor ahead of time), each participant in this one-night workshop will compose a line of type for a group broadside. We’ll learn how to lock up a print form, and how to ink, operate, and clean a platen press. Participants will take home 5-10 posters each.

Meredith Miller is an artist, printmaker, and bookbinder with over 30 years experience teaching at universities, community arts organizations, and independent studios. She is passionate about collaborative making, and helping people build confidence through material experimentation, craftsmanship, and creative problem-solving. She holds a BFA in Printmaking and Book Art from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and lives and works in Austin, Texas, where she operates Punchpress Studio, fabricates limited edition artist’s books, and teaches relief printing, typesetting, and book and box construction.
