Introduction to French Wine
An introductory workshop covering France’s key wine regions, grape varieties and wine styles
Please note: This workshop will be held in English. The workshop host can also provide explanations and translations in German or French if needed.
Have you ever found yourself standing a little lost in the French section of a wine shop, reading names like “Muscadet-sur-Lie”, “Crozes-Hermitage” or “Pouilly-Fuissé” and wondering how you’re supposed to know what kind of wines are actually hiding behind those names?
France is one of the world’s most popular wine-producing countries and home to an incredible diversity of grape varieties and wine styles. At the same time, it is also one of the most difficult countries to understand when it comes to wine – even for people who were born there. Ask most French people, and they’ll usually know a few appellations they like and simply stick to those when choosing wine.
In this introductory workshop, we’ll explore France’s most important wine regions and get to know the grape varieties and wine styles they’re known for. Together, we’ll taste and describe five different still wines representing these styles. Along the way, we’ll also learn some common terminology and wine vocabulary, helping you feel more confident choosing and ordering French wines in the future.
This workshop is ideal for anyone interested in wine who would like to understand French wine better. It is suitable both for complete beginners and for those who already have a little prior knowledge. All you need is curiosity and a thirst for wine!

The workshop is limited to 12 participants. Tickets are fully refundable up to 48 hours before the event and partially refundable up to 24 hours beforehand.
About your workshop host: My name is Anaïs, and I’m the owner and sommelier of Pépites, the new wine shop on Stargarder Straße. I come from a Michelin-starred restaurant background and previously worked as Head Sommelier at Restaurant Bricole in Berlin. I’m passionate about continuing to learn and have a pretty varied professional background – from tech and events to working with cheese. My areas of focus in the wine world include France, Portugal and Germany.
