Intro to Drones Workshop

AlteX and York University will be hosting an Intro to Drones Workshop on 19 September 2026

Open to AMPD Creative Technologies community members as well as York students, professors and sponsored partners, join this free training session to learn about operating drones, gain hands-on experience, and to obtain a basic drone pilot certificate

• History, types, and commercial applications of drones
• Airspace, regulations, and legal requirements
• Fundamentals of flight and drone systems

• Live flight demonstrations
• Hands-on flight training
• Basic controls, safety features, and camera functions
• Team-based filming exercise to create your own drone video

• Attempt a basic Transport Canada written exam
• Plan, fly, and record drone footage to create an aerial video sequence
