About this Event
Working with reclaimed timber not only reduces waste, but also creates great opportunities for artistic creation in garden and furniture design. You will be amazed at what’s possible - seating and social spaces, water-efficient planters, pergolas, and limitless other options!
We want to share these skills with you, for free! This introductory session will cover sourcing surplus timber, treating it to make it useable, basic tool use and carpentry techniques, and approaches to building some simple garden furniture.
Suitable for ages 16+. Safety equipment will be provided but sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing advised. All tools and tuition provided, you just need to turn up!

NOTE: WoRD Introductory Sessions are here to support people who have no/limited experience with woodworking and tools. At this workshop we will guide you through tool use and safety, all the way to building a project as a group.
To ensure our facilitators can best support participants, if you have woodworking experience and want to work on your own project please visit our events page and sign up to one of our Open Workshops.

A note on fees:
Thanks to support from our Crowdfunder supporters and the National lottery Community Fund, we are able to run these sessions for at least the next two years, with the cost starting from £0 (with a refundable £10 deposit to make sure people turn up.)
To make our sessions even more sustainable for us to run, whilst still free to those who could not afford to pay for them, If you can afford to contribute, then your donation goes towards covering the costs of sessions or funding future ones, meaning we can keep this going for as long as possible and offer more of these sessions, to more people, for longer into the future!
If money is a barrier to you, please don't let this get in the way. Everyone is welcome to our sessions no matter what they can afford, and if even the refundable deposit is tricky, do get in touch and we can waive it.
