Members of the public are invited to join us for a special Astronomy Night on International Observe the Moon Night on Saturday, Sept. 19We’ll begin at 8 p.m. in our Omnisphere Planetarium, with Dr. Rosa Williams pointing out current constellations and bright objects in the evening skies. Weather permitting, at 8:30 pm, we will move outside to the telescopes on our South Lawn to view the Moon. Fun Moon phases activities and lunar science presentations will be hosted inside during this time as well!
8 PM: Presentation in Omnisphere Theater (arrive before to secure a seat)
8:30 PM: Telescope Viewing (Weather permitting) and activities
Parking is available in front of the building and just past the fountain, with parallel parking on the road (beware of the bike lane). The parking garage to the right of the building is free to use most evenings.
International Observe the Moon Night is a worldwide public event that encourages observation, appreciation and understanding of our Moon and its connection to space science, exploration, and human culture. This annual event connects scientists, educators and lunar enthusiasts from around the world. This year, we’re celebrating the exciting new lunar observations made by the four astronauts of the Artemis II crew in April.
International Observe the Moon Night is sponsored by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) mission and the Solar System Exploration Division at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, with many contributors. LRO is managed by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, for the Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
