Why do we celebrate International Men's Day?
International Men's Day is celebrated to recognise and appreciate the positive contributions that men and boys make to families, workplaces, communities, and society.
It is a day to celebrate good men, encourage positive role models, and raise awareness of the challenges many men face throughout their lives.
The goal is not to compete with or diminish women. It is to strengthen everyone by supporting the wellbeing of men and boys alongside the continued pursuit of gender equality.
---
The Core Values
Honour positive male role models.
Celebrate men who lead with integrity, humility, kindness, courage, responsibility, and service.
---
Recognise men's contributions.
Acknowledge fathers, grandfathers, sons, brothers, husbands, partners, teachers, mentors, volunteers, first responders, and everyday men who quietly make a difference.
---
Improve men's health and wellbeing.
Encourage men to look after both their physical and mental health through prevention, regular check-ups, healthy lifestyles, and early support.
---
Build stronger families and communities.
Healthy men help create healthy families. Healthy families create stronger communities and a better future for everyone.
---
Mental Health Matters
Too many men struggle in silence.
Depression, anxiety, loneliness, trauma, and suicide remain significant issues affecting men around the world.
Real strength is not pretending everything is okay.
Real strength is asking for help when it's needed.
We must continue removing the stigma around seeking support and create environments where men feel safe to talk openly without fear of judgement.
---
Addiction and Drug Dependency
Addiction does not define a person's worth.
Whether it involves alcohol, drugs, gambling, or other destructive behaviours, recovery is possible.
Healing begins with honesty, accountability, support, treatment, hope, and community.
We should encourage recovery rather than shame those who are trying to rebuild their lives.
---
Gender Equality
Supporting men does not mean opposing women.
Gender equality is about fairness, opportunity, respect, and partnership.
Women and men succeed together—not against one another.
Strong relationships are built on mutual respect, shared responsibilities, empathy, communication, and trust.
---
Fathers and Families
Children benefit when fathers and father figures are actively involved in their lives.
A father's greatest influence is not found in what he owns, but in how he lives.
Children learn from what they see:
• Respect
• Honesty
• Responsibility
• Compassion
• Resilience
• Love
Our actions become the example the next generation follows.
---
Positive Masculinity
Being a good man isn't about dominance or control.
It means having the courage to be accountable.
The humility to keep learning.
The strength to protect without intimidating.
The wisdom to listen before speaking.
The confidence to lift others instead of putting them down.
---
The 2026 Agenda
Encourage men to seek help early.
Promote positive mental health.
Reduce male suicide.
Support addiction recovery.
Strengthen fatherhood and family involvement.
Promote healthy relationships.
Celebrate positive male role models.
Encourage education, mentoring, and lifelong learning.
Promote physical health and regular medical check-ups.
Support workplaces that value wellbeing.
Continue working towards genuine gender equality through cooperation and mutual respect.
Build stronger families, stronger communities, and a stronger future for everyone.
---
The Message
International Men's Day reminds us that every man matters.
Every father matters.
Every son matters.
Every brother matters.
Every partner matters.
Every life has value.
When men are supported to become healthier, kinder, wiser, and more connected, everyone benefits.
Strong men build strong families.
Strong families build strong communities.
Strong communities build a better world.
