Intercultural Couples & Families: Life Across Cultures 🌍
2 editions, the same workshop content.
Feel welcome to join 10.00-12.30 or 15.00-17.30.
Moving to a new country is a major life transition that often affects not only the individual, but also the relationship and the whole family.
Intercultural families can take many different forms:
Partners may come from different cultural backgrounds, one partner may be Finnish and the other from another country, children may be born or raised in a culture different from their parents’, or both partners may share the same cultural background while building their life together in a new country and culture.
All couples and families can experience challenges.
Living across cultures can add another layer, bringing questions related to communication, expectations, values, family roles, parenting, identity, sense of belonging and adapting to a new society.
This is a practical workshop where you will gain valuable, easy-to-use tools that you can apply in everyday situations.
Together, we will explore:
- what intercultural and multicultural mean and how they differ
- how immigration and major life transitions can affect relationships and family dynamics
- cultural differences in values, expectations, communication, relationships and family life
- identity, belonging and raising children across cultures
- common challenges and practical ways of navigating them
- how you can support intercultural couples and families as an integration mentor or simply as a friend while respecting their individual choices and boundaries
- where to find additional support when needed.
There will also be time for your own questions, sharing experiences and open discussion.
You are welcome to invite your mentees or friends if you feel this topic could be useful for them too.
This is an open, community-focused event. Let’s support together as many people and families as possible!
The aim is not to tell couples or families how they should live, but to increase understanding, open up dialogue and offer practical perspectives for building a good life together across cultures.
