About this Event
A live electronic score for one of the most visually arresting films of the last decade — Estonian folklore meets experimental production.
Vol 7: Rainer Sarnet's November is a visually arresting journey through Estonian folk mythology. Tonight, Toronto-born Estonian-rooted producer ERIK LAAR gives it a new sonic life.
This is the heart of VOLUME 7 of the INSTITUT experiment. Every week, a different hypothesis. Underground at 620 Spadina Ave - around the back, through the lot to the steel doors, down the stairs, past the mechanical room, through the swinging wood laminate door...
Come early for the panel at 5PM. Stay for LES PASSAGERS at 9PM and MIRA MELA on vinyl at 11PM. But RSVP even though it's PWYC so we know who to expect.

ERIK LAAR is a Toronto-born experimental multi-genre producer, vocalist, DJ and instrumentalist with deep Estonian roots. Drawing on the ancient Regilaul vocal tradition and decades of turntablist experience, his live shows combine drum machines, turntables, vinyl, keyboards, laptops, glockenspiel and live vocals into something that sits between electronic and acoustic, digital and natural. He has scored films live at TIFF Lightbox, toured as part of Evergreen Gamelan Orchestra in Canada, performed at Low End Theory in LA, and shared stages with Kid Koala, Daedalus, RJD2, SVDP, and Milk & Bone. He has released music as Circles & Squares and as one half of turntable band iNSiDEaMiND, with studio albums Fragmental (2006) and Scatterpopia (2008). He is the owner, director and instructor at Off Centre DJ School in Toronto.
