On Friday October 23rd, singer-songwriters Johnny J. Blair and Jeff Desira will take the stage at The Monkey House, a listening room at 1638 University Avenue in Berkeley. Doors open at 7PM.
Johnny is promoting his album WE’RE GETTING CLOSER TO THE SUN, with lyrics inspired by science ficion and childlike faith, musically influenced by David Bowie, Neil Finn, and Laurel Canyon psychedelia. Brian Wilson called Johnny “a virtuoso” while earcandy.com called him “a delightful entertainer.” Johnny has worked with a range of artists—most prominently with The Monkees and solo Davy Jones. “I learned a lot of stagecraft from him,” says Johnny, who has also performed with David Cassidy, Paul Gilbert, Buddy & Julie Miller, Al Stewart (“Year of the Cat”), and other notables. Johnny’s itinerary includes entertaining in assisted living homes for people with disabilities and dementia: “Music goes through the brain into places where math and language don’t go. Music heals and makes a difference.” At Monkey House, Johnny will play his music, Monkees songs, and tell stories “about Monkees, working with people in care homes, and the wild ride of the music industry.” His music can be heard at https://johnnyjblairsingeratlarge.bandcamp.com
Jeff Desira is a prolific singer-songwriter whose recordings have reached a global audience. Critics say Jeff projects an “empathy of the life experience with his lyrics and authentic delivery. With resonant, rich, and endearing vocals to comfort and engage...his songs evoke and inspire fans from every walk of life.” Producer Chris Manning (Salamander Sound) said, “Jeff is one of my favorite up-and-coming songwriters in the Bay Area...his songs have a way of conveying the simple experiences of life with honest, originality, and authenticity.” Musically Jeff is influenced by classic rock, folk, New Wave, power pop, and punk. For two decades, he’s been performing as a solo or with a band—from busking on the streets of New York to packing venues around San Francisco.
