Folk music has always been a thread running through the concert hall. Composers have been drawn to the songs, dances, and stories of ordinary people, whether from their own villages or from places they'd never visited. This program follows that thread across two centuries and three countries, from a composer's own folk-inflected voice to the unmistakable sound of a Russian folk melody woven into a symphony. Join us as we explore how the music of the people became the music of the concert stage.
