Mullaghgarve Mass Rock on Sliabh an Iarainn is the perfect place to leave the world behind. This dramatic mountain landscape, with its hidden stone altar set into the cliff face and sweeping views across Lough Allen, offers an unforgettable setting for creativity, exploration and discovery. The 3km out-and-back trail leads to a striking cleft in the rock that feels at once wild, mythic and steeped in history.
As your guide, I'll offer creative prompts along the way. No previous writing or artistic experience is needed, and sharing your work is entirely optional.

If you've ever longed to be more inside nature, not simply admiring it or passing through it, but inhabiting it, listening, and belonging, this day is for you.
We'll make our way slowly up the mountain, drawing inspiration from the landscape as we go, allowing it to shape our attention, creativity and experience. Together we'll spend time writing, noticing and simply being at one of Leitrim's most remarkable landmarks.

?Good walking shoes or boots (preferably waterproof)

A NOTE ABOUT THE WALK...
The route follows natural uphill mountain terrain with uneven ground. We'll walk at an easy pace, stopping regularly along the way. You should feel comfortable walking uphill and downhill on uneven ground for several hours, with plenty of breaks.
WEATHER
If the weather is too severe for the mountain, the day will become a Fireside Creative Retreat at my home studio, inspired by the same landscape.
The first 2.7km of the trail follows a firm gravel track. Only the final 300 metres become boggy, and the Mass Rock itself offers some shelter, so light rain or wind won't prevent us from heading out. We'll only move indoors if conditions make the mountain unsuitable.
