Fashion is one of the world's most influential cultural and economic industries. Yet behind its creativity and desirability lies a highly complex system facing profound challenges: climate change, fragile supply chains, geopolitical uncertainty, technological disruption and changing consumer expectations.
In Reset Fashion, Romain Liot draws on his experience as an entrepreneur and fashion industry leader to offer blunt insights into why most fashion companies failed so far and how they should rethink the way they operate - from organizational design and supply chains to technology, collaboration and decision-making.
While the book is rooted in fashion, many of its lessons extend far beyond this industry. Romain's practical approach offers business leaders in any sector an opportunity to question how their own organizations operate, where well-intentioned initiatives get stuck, and how to embark in a true transformational journey towards sustainability.
At its heart, Reset Fashion raises a question that is relevant far beyond fashion: when incremental change is no longer enough, what would it take to reset the way we do business?
We are delighted to welcome Romain to the INSEAD Book Salon for a conversation about how the fashion industry can reinvent itself - and what other industries can learn from that journey.
Romain argues that sustainability should not be treated as something added on top of fashion. It should be at the centre of its reinvention. Rather than seeing sustainability simply as an environmental constraint, he explores how it can become a source of innovation, resilience and new business opportunities.
Drawing on more than a decade of experience in the fashion industry, Romain co-founded Adore Me, a B Corp-certified lingerie brand that became one of the leading Direct-To-Consumer success stories before being acquired by Victoria's Secret & Co. in 2023. Having begun his career at McKinsey & Company, he now works at the intersection of fashion, technology, innovation and climate, helping businesses develop solutions for a more sustainable industry.
His perspective is both pragmatic and optimistic: fashion has always been an industry of reinvention, and sustainability can become one of the forces that makes its next chapter more innovative, resilient and exciting.
