About this Event
Join performance poet, wordsmith and Walking Dictionary Chris Arning, for an interactive poetry writing performance workshop Ink and Inspiration that promises to get your poetic juices flowing. This is a critically acclaimed workshop back by popular demand.
Chris will share his passion for poetry and as both artistic practice and technology for transformation. During the course of the session Chris will define poetry, break down classic poems to analyse how and why they have their effects on us and through a series of single, paired and group exercises on core aspects of the craft (FEELING, RHYTHM, FORM, etc) exemplified by excerpts from haiku to hip-hop we will build up our skills.
After a speed writing and free association exercise we will progressively re-write and refine our words into a poem and - if we wish - share it in an open mic! (no compulsion to share!)
Chris will invite you to think of poetry as a form of 'enchanted' speech that helps be more human and the wirting process as getting in touch with deeper parts of ourselves. Don't worry about poetic form or how verses look on the page: thought and feeling come first!
For professional development writing and reciting poetry gives you transferable skills e.g. enhances public speaking and presentation skills including: injecting more emotionality into delivery, enhancing engagements, widens your vocabulary and helps you memorise.
Previous participants left the workshop inspired & nourished by the affirming atmosphere.

“I’ve attended two of Chris’s poetry workshops; each was characterised by the uplifting and cathartic experiences of learning about the nature of poetry and its possibilities, as well as surprising myself with the quality of poetry I was able to begin to craft during the session.” Robert T
“I see that you can look at really banal things and make something creative out of nothing with poetry. So it’s quite a creative process. I like having fun and there was a lot of fun in what we did” Catherine Morgan Thomas
