Are you considering a PhD in Informatics, or would you like to find out more about postgraduate research? Join us at the Informatics PhD Fair to learn about research opportunities, doctoral programmes, funding and the application process at the University of Edinburgh.
The School of Informatics is a major centre for research in Computer Science and Informatics. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF), we were ranked 1st in the UK for research power in Computer Science and Informatics, reflecting the scale, quality and breadth of our research. Our research spans areas including artificial intelligence, language, robotics, systems, neuroscience and the foundations of computer science.
The Fair is open to students at all stages. You do not need to be ready to apply for a PhD to attend. If you are an earlier-year undergraduate student, this is an opportunity to find out what doctoral study involves and what you can do during your degree to develop your research interests, experience and skills in preparation for a future research degree application.
You will have the opportunity to discuss support and funding available within the School,
At the Fair, you can:
- Explore our six research institutes, covering areas including AI, language, robotics, systems, neuroscience and the foundations of computer science.
- Find out about funded PhD opportunities, including our Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs) and other routes into doctoral research.
- Learn about our CDT programmes in areas including Quantum Informatics, Responsible Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning Systems, Dependable and Deployable AI for Robotics, and AI for Biomedical Innovation.
- Meet programme directors, potential supervisors, Graduate School and CDT teams, as well as current PhD students who can share their experiences.
- Attend information sessions and panel discussions covering doctoral study, applications and funding.
- Find out what you can do during your undergraduate degree to prepare for a future PhD application.
Whether you are considering applying soon or simply want to understand your options for the future, the Fair is an opportunity to ask questions, explore different areas of research and learn more about postgraduate research in Informatics.
