About this Event
Lauren-Ashley, originally from St. Louis, moved to Kansas City in 2019, took a job hosting karaoke, and began, in her words, "to fall in love with my voice again." She'd grown up singing in church as "a very shy, quiet child." Her father is an AME pastor, and both her parents encouraged her to sing, though, she says, "I never thought I would be singing as an adult in this capacity."
Her first open mic came in September 2022, and she says she was extremely nervous. "It was this performance that solidified that I should be sharing my talent and gift with people," she told VoyageKC in 2025. In January 2023 she started her own band, and its first show was her birthday celebration, where she hosted an open mic too. By March 2025 the band had played 27 venues in Kansas and Missouri, and she counts KC Pride among the highlights. Her site describes her sound as classic soul blended with contemporary R&B.
In August 2024 she released The Introduction, a five-song EP, under her own Lauren-Ashley Music imprint. Her site also carries the singles "Rewind," featuring Slikc, "Murderer," and "Thank You."
She's also a minister and a foster parent, and she holds three degrees, the highest a doctorate from Maryville University.
