About this Event
In January 2017, Joey Gallant was a Kansas City social worker with a new video: a tribute to Barack Obama as the president left office, sung over a sample of Enchantment's 1977 hit "Gloria." R&B singer Joe touted it on Instagram, The Industry Cosign called Gallant "this young blue-eyed soul singer," and Vibe reported more than 13 million views across all platforms.
He'd moved to Kansas City from Boston in 2013. It was here, he wrote in 2021, that he first decided to pursue a career in music while working with kids. In Kansas City he worked as a Youth Specialist with the Missouri Division of Youth Services, then spent seven years at Rose Brooks Center, a domestic-violence agency, as a Prevention Specialist and Shelter Advocate.
In that same 2021 piece, he told readers they might catch him on the mic at the Blue Room or Soiree, and in June he headlined a Saturday night here.
This year his YouTube channel posted soul covers filmed in Kansas City on January 30: "Papa Was A Rolling Stone," "Pusherman," "Be Thankful For What You Got," and "That's The Way I Feel About Cha."
The Blue Room, 1600 E 18th St, Kansas City, MO 64108. Friday, November 6, 2026, at 5:30 pm. $5 general admission; complimentary for AJM members.
