About this Event
Chloe McFadden and her father, Lonnie McFadden, wrote a song together called "Don't Tell Me What to Do Blues." It's on his 2012 album, I Believe in Music, featuring her.
Her grandfather, Jimmy "Pops" McFadden, was a tap dancer, and her site says he worked alongside Count Basie, Jay McShann, and Louis Armstrong as a member of the touring tap group Three Chocolate Drops. Lonnie and her uncle Ronald followed in his footsteps, and Chloe calls herself the first woman in the family to make it her profession. "The music didn't begin with me," she writes. "I'm simply carrying it forward."
In 2004 she took first place in Radio Disney Kansas City's talent competition. As a teenager she sang backup for the rock band Shooting Star, and she's sung the National Anthem for the Royals at Kauffman Stadium.
She stepped away from music for about six years to raise her family and moved home to Kansas City in June 2021. Starting in April 2023, The Pitch reported, her father gave her a few gigs and told her, "You go from there." These days she holds a weekly Thursday residency at The Phoenix, singing what she calls soulful interpretations of songs inspired by artists like Olivia Dean, Amy Winehouse, and Billie Holiday.
She was playing the Blue Room as a kid, with her father and her uncle.
The Blue Room, 1600 E 18th St, Kansas City, MO 64108. Friday, December 18, 2026, at 5:30 pm. $5 general admission; complimentary for AJM members.
